We invite you to join us in awarding this year’s scholarships and shaping the future of our deserving scholars!
The Young Professionals Board volunteers will be awarding the Alliance Gayle Miller Leaders of Change Scholarships, Alliance Young Leaders Scholarships, and Carson Scholarships for 2021. Last year, we awarded nearly $300,000 in financial scholarships and are aiming for similar distributions this year.
THE ASK
We’re asking for as many YPB volunteers as possible to participate in the selection process running from March 8th through April 17th. We’re anticipating nearly 400+ submissions, so we’d love to get at least 30+ volunteers involved.
THE PROCESS

- March 8, 9 or 10 : Virtual Trainings
- Mandatory for new volunteers, optional for returners
- Overview of the process, scoring rubric, and what to expect
- Attend one: Monday March 8th 3:30-5:00p PST or Tuesday March 9th 9:00-10:30a PST or Wednesday March 10th 7:00p-8:30p PST.
- March 12: Virtual Group Reading (optional)
- Join the other volunteers to share highlights from your selected essays
- Optional: Friday March 12th 7:00p-8:30p PST
- By March 26: Reading & Scoring
- Two reviewers from the YPB volunteers and/or Alliance staff will review each submission and submit their scorings via online rubric surveys
- Read/score at your own pace during this time
- April 17: Virtual Finalist Interviews
- YPB volunteers and Alliance staff will conduct virtual interviews (via Zoom) with finalists
- Individual interviews and scoring teams as the first step, then we discuss/determine scholarship finalists together as a larger group
