About Ambassador Frank E. Baxter
Frank E. Baxter is a founding member of Alliance College-Ready Public Schools and has spent the last 40 years committed to improving public education for all students, especially for low-income students of color. He is the former Chairman of Jeffries, Inc and former U.S. Ambassador to Uruguay. He has served on dozens of nonprofit boards aimed at improving public education and the lives of those from marginalized communities. His life embodies true civic leadership.
About Judy Ivie Burton
Judy Ivie Burton founded Alliance College-Ready Public Schools. She, alongside other champions of educational justice, opened Alliance’s first school in South Los Angeles on the belief that all children—regardless of ZIP code, income, ability, or background—are capable of achieving at high levels. Today, Ms. Burton is a nationally recognized speaker on urban school reform issues. Her leadership in educational reform throughout her career as a teacher, principal, consultant, and Assistant Superintendent has guided the implementation of systemic reform and built collaborations with parents and community members, teachers, the business community, and universities researching the impact of reform.
About Alliance College-Ready Public Schools
For nearly 20 years, Alliance has been at the forefront of educational excellence as one of the largest and most successful public charter school networks in the nation with 26 high-performing, tuition-free, open-enrollment middle and high schools across Los Angeles. Despite the average scholar arriving at Alliance schools four grade levels behind, 97% of Alliance seniors are accepted to college, with 85% admitted to a four-year college or university.
The success of Alliance schools is rooted in the dedication of our educators, staff, civic and community leaders who commit themselves to
ensuring quality education for all children.
